Wipeout!

Man. Somehow, someone (something?) deleted everything in my sociate.com web directory. I mean everything.

My sociate.com email still works, but my old site is dust. And XO (my host) keeps backups only for 48 hours, which doesn’t help. Ouch.

The good news: I really haven’t changed the site much in the last three years or so.

Back in 1998, I used NetObjects Fusion to build this site. I made a few changes here and there, but the customizations to my Fusion template didn’t survive a laptop migration along the way, so I couldn’t really edit my site unless I pulled up individual text files, edited them in a native HTML editor, and put them back. Not fun.

Also, the original blog was in Blogger, which I’m pretty accustomed to using. But that means the blog posts are still around. And I can use the Wayback Machine or the Google cache to recover my site, page by painful page.

So I was ready to change tools, anyway. This blog I’m building in Wordpress, to see what that’s like, but I may well head over to Seedwiki and finish the blog-inside-a-wiki idea that’s been half-finished there for three years.

For now, though, I’m happy to play with some new tools and see what the world holds.
